Penn Road is a quiet, tree-lined street in Holloway, north London. Built between 1865 and 1870, it runs between Caledonian Road and Hillmarton Road, with Penn Road Gardens, a small public open space, at one end and St Luke's Church at the other.

The residents association was formed in May 1997. It's helped to make Penn Road an unusually friendly place to live, and contributed to a strong and growing sense of community so rarely seen in London these days.

We are concerned with issues that will benefit residents and the street itself. We meet about ten times a year, with additional meetings when we prepare for our annual summer party, held in the award-winning Penn Road Gardens at the Caledonian Road end.

This event, which has been running for 22 years, provides a community focus for the area and is well attended by many people from both Penn Road and the surrounding roads. Once restrictions ease and we can plan a community event that adheres to guidelines, we will be looking to do something for the neighbourhood.

We have a maintenance contract for Penn Road Gardens with Islington Council and work with them to improve this small green oasis.

Over the years Penn Road Gardens has won many awards in the Islington in Bloom competition. This year, we won Gold.

We've also worked closely with the residents of the flats at Number 1 Penn Road on the Edible Islington project. They're now enjoying great success growing their own fruit and vegetables.

On the last Sunday of every month we host a gardening morning, working in collaboration with neighbours and friends to constantly improve this award-winning space.

We meet in the Gardens from 10.00 to midday, when experts and novices muck in and do what they can. We follow council advice on distancing, groups of people and not sharing tools.

   Consider yourself invited.

Catch up with the some great news about the Gardens!
